Preparation

If we are going to clean a kitchen at light speed, we need the right tools.

It will take some time to get the supplies ready, but once you have them, and you place them in a convenient part of your kitchen, cleaning bi-weekly will be so much easier.

You will need a broom, an all-purpose cleaner, a powdered abrassive (we recommend bar keeper’s friend), Windex, 10 microfiber cloths, a sponge, a toothbrush (optional), a razor blade or scraper (optional), and an apron with pockets or even jeans with belt loops.

Put your all-purpose cleaner, Windex, sponge, and four rags into your apron pocket. You can also add the toothbrush and razor blade/scraper if you have them.

If you have no apron and are wearing jeans, put the glass cleaner in the left belt loop the all-purpose cleaner in the right belt loop, and some rags in your pocket.

Place the broom, comet, and the rest of the microfiber cloths to the right of the sink. This will be your starting point.

All of these products can be sourced from Local Janitorial and Vacuum, a local cleaning supply company in the San Clemente area where we source most of our products.

Cleaning

Kitchen cleaning

Now for the fun part

Clean from right to left and top to bottom. Look up, clean, then move down. Use your all-purpose cleaner and rag to clean every surface. If the dirt does not come out easily with the rag, you can try your sponge or your razor blade instead.

Now, remember, this is a deep cleaning so make sure to hit the surfaces of every cabinet. Also, make sure to clean behind the appliances as well. You can also use your toothbrush along with a little bit of all-purpose cleaner to get in between the buttons of your appliances.

Cleaning with Company

For quicker cleaning, grab a friend and have them start at the opposite end of the sink cleaning from right to left while you clean from left to right.

Stove

The hardest part of the kitchen. Once you get to the stove, remove all of the burners and place them in the sink, now that they are off, blast the stove with your all-purpose cleaner.

Now that the stove is covered in cleaner, let it sit for a minute then scrub the life out of it with a sponge. Letting it sit for a minute is important because the cleaner does the work for you. (Note don’t “scrub the life” out of your stove if you have stainless steel it will scratch).

If you have a stainless steel stove, spray the surface down with Windex instead. Do not use a sponge. Instead, use a clean microfiber cloth, and it should look as good as new.

Refrigerator

If you have been following this guide, you have likely been cleaning for about 20 minutes now and you are now at the refrigerator. Dont give up! Keep cleaning.

When you get to the refrigerator, you dont need to clean the whole thing, vertical surfaces don’t get as dirty as horizontal ones. Just spray the dirty spots with your all-purpose cleaner and then wipe them down.

Make sure to disinfect the handles and look for any fingerprints or dirty spots and spot clean them with your all-purpose

If you have a stainless steel refrigerator, use Windex instead of an all-purpose cleaner. Spray the refrigerator lightly and make sure to wipe it dry with a clean rag to avoid streaking.

Oven

For now, we will just show you how to clean the glass, but if you want our full guide on how to deep clean an oven click here.

Spray the inside glass with your all-purpose, wait, then scrape it off with your razor blade. It should be transparent again.

Microwave

If you want to clean your microwave quickly, remove the inside circle and spray the interior with your all-purpose cleaner. Then wipe down with your rag.

If it is difficult to clean or there is a lot of stuck-on debris you can use a sponge, or you can get fancy and try the lemon trick.

To do this, squeeze a lemon and some water into a small bowl. Then microwave them for 5 minutes on high. The acid from the lemon will loosen the debris from the inside of the microwave and then you can easily wipe it off with your cloth.

Sink

Notice how now that we are back at the sink we have looped around the entire kitchen? You are finally almost done!

Remember the burners from the stove that we put in the sink? Now we need to clean them.

Use your sponge and some soap, or all-purpose cleaner to clean each of them off, dry them and then replace.

Now the sink is ready to clean. Use the faucet to get the wholw sink wet, then sprinkle Comet( or any other abrasive) to cover the whole sink. Let the chemical work it’s magic for one minute, then use your sponge to scrub it in. Rinse it out with water and use a cloth to polish. Your sink should now be very shiny.

Another stainless steel warning: If you have a stainless steel sink, use your all-purpose cleaner instead of your abrasive or you will scratch your sink.

Floor

The last item on our list. Cleaning the floor is a two-step process that involves sweeping and mopping.

Sweep all of the loose debris together, and scoop it up with either a wet paper towel or dustpan.

You can also use a vacuum with a brush attachment.

Now you can wet mop it. Though, what we have found easier than mopping and taking a lot less time is to make our improvised Swiffer.

Cut a hole into one of the rags and place it over your broom. Spray the ground and use your broom rag to wipe it down. Scrub hard in very dirty areas.

If the floor is very dirty, skip this cleaning hack and use a bucket and a mop instead.
